Ebook Making Utilities

So, You want to create your own ebooks, eh? You've come to the right place. I am most familiar with Makebook, but multiple different utilities were made back in the day.

This elegant editor for Windows allows you to format a book (in .txt format) into a feature-rich ebook for either Gameboy (Color) or Gameboy Advance.

Features:

  • Helpful editor to help format your book.
  • Creates either GBA or GB books.
  • Supports multiple book and interface languages.
  • Multiple color options.
  • Browse by Book, Chapter, Page, or Line.
  • Hyperlinks with mouse cursor mode. (GBA Only)
  • Bookmarks. (GBA Only)
  • Automatic save support to save settings and book position.
  • Fullscreen mode. (GBA Only)
  • Custom font support and editor.
  • Image Support.
  • MIDI Support.
  • Import from other formats.
  • Text compression to save space.
  • Works on other operating systems using Wine.

Drawbacks:

  • No support for formatting test. (Italics, Bold, Underline)
  • Books have splash screens that always run on first boot.
  • Currently unable to buy the full version.

Gameboy Advance Ebook

This minimalistic application accepts a book or books in txt format, and spits out an e-reading application in Gameboy Advance format. Three versions are known to exist based on which direction the text is displayed: horizontally, vertically, or variably. Not all features are the same in all three versions The original page is long gone, but mirrors exist. 

Features:

  • Multiple color options. (Text and background can be set independently.)
  • Multiple font sizes.
  • Import multiple txt files. (One per book)
  • Browse by Book, Chapter, Page, or Line.
  • Automatic save support to save settings and book position.
  • Freeware

Drawbacks:

  • Lacks advanced formatting features.
